This is an elegant walking stick. If you must use a cane.........you might as well do it with a little style.
It is carved by hand to fit my hand which is average sized (size 8 glove). This will fit the vast majority of adult hands. I use a variety of cutting tools: saws, chisels, and even knives. The bulk of the carving, however, is done with abrasives. The final shaping is done by hand sanding beginning with 80 grit sandpaper and working up to to 0000 steel wool. This leaves the cane with a satin finish. It will feel great in your hand because it doesn't leave my shop until it feels great in my hand. These canes weigh about 13 oz. That is lighter than a typical aluminum cane. You have to feel this cane in your hand to appreciate it.
The shaft is walnut or maple and the grip is a decorative panel of hardwood. I look for grips with figured wood. Typically I use figured maple or walnut, but I can use unusual woods such as Padauk or Kentucky coffee tree. I can even make a cane with a grip made from wood that you supply, such as wood from a tree in your yard or from your house or furnishings. I do not promise that the figure in your cane will match the photos in the listing.
We make many color combinations. All of our in stock canes cost $120. Custom orders may cost more.
Walnut is a deep rich brown. Maple is white. I usually use tiger maple which has beautiful cross bands. My cherry is natural, unstained and is a warm salmon color. Be aware that cherry darkens with age. Padauk is a deep rich red. Ambrosia maple has brown to gray streaks and worm holes. Every piece of wood is different. Every computer monitor is different. The color of your cane may not exactly match the color of the cane on your monitor.
We usually keep the following in stock:

The tip is rubber. Replacement tips are available at most drug stores.
To pick your size, the rule of thumb is to take 1/2 of your height in inches and round up to the next inch. We may have to build your stick to order which could take about a week. If you need a special size just e-mail us. If in doubt, order too large. It is very easy to cut these canes down. You cannot force them to grow longer. Remove the tip, saw a little off, and replace the tip. If you can slice bread, you can size one of these canes.
Unfortunately, as this is a custom order item, we cannot accept returns once we have cut a cane to your size.
If you are a collector and would prefer a decorative brass tip please contact us. These tips are beautiful but not very durable. They are not suitable for use.
If you are heavy or need a lot of support you may want a metal cane.
If you would like an engraved metal plaque on the cane, you can arrange to have one engraved.....1/2" x 6" is the maximum size. You will have to provide the plaque and mail it to me. I will attach it to the cane for $10. Please call me first. 859-816-4200.
After 7 years, I have raised the price on my canes. Shipping is still included. Due to the extraordinary cost of shipping to Alaska and Hawaii, I can only ship to the continental United States.
Thanks for your understanding.
