Sparky the budgerigar is 23cm / 9 inches tall - which is about the size of a real budgie/parakeet. So when you've finished knitting him, he's going to be the perfect size to sit and keep you company – and his little posable wire feet mean that he can cling to the object of your choice!

Is Sparky easy to knit?

Yes! He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm(UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him a good project for a beginner: no need to knit in the round. Basic skills that you need to know: stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). The 6 page knitting pattern includes detailed making up instructions and many colour photos to help you on your way. I've included a tutorial on making wire legs, too!
